While driving through Fayetteville, looking for the Bruce Goff Fulbright Fountain, I came across this interesting multi-use complex. It is mostly parking garage, skillfully hidden by the sloped site and the wrapping of retail along the main pedestrian path and traffic boulevard. The main retail block is the campus bookstore. What actually caught my eye was the beautiful randomly spaced sunscreen and rainscreen assembly. It shields windows and hides the upper floors of the carpark. More of a sculpture than a fountain really, this “Skyscraper”  is placed on a low pedestal with water cascading over this base. Every architect wants to design a skyscraper. This is E. Fay Jones’ skyscraper. Great proportions, interesting design, I almost wish it was a real skyscraper in New York… or anywhere actually. It is not too hard to find on the University of Arkansas campus, and actually found it well worth the little side trip I took to check it out.
